meet my sister

She doesn't look a thing like me. Her parents and brothers are intellectuals. We are ten days away from the anniversary of our meeting. Despite all of our differences and the fact that, in the grand scheme of things, we haven't known each other for long, she is kindred.

We both have the brainfuck; though unfortunately, hers seems worse than mine. We both have brothers and no female siblings...though she has two brothers, both older, and I have one brother, who is younger. We both have baby nephews (neffies!) and pretty sisters-in-law (pfft). We both love to read...in fact, she is a librarian (yes, you are, too). We have the same sense of humor and find almost all of the same things funny. Though she is not fat by any stretch, she struggles with her weight. She struggles with her self-esteem. She struggles with the same things that I do.

She likes red, and I don't...but she also likes blue and green, and I do. She doesn't like to talk on the phone...yet we both work in phone-based professions. We met by chance and somehow she wormed her way into my socially-phobic affections, and now I can't imagine my life without her.

I've had many friends throughout my life but I am very selective as to who is let into my inner circle. I don't like to have too many friends at once...right now, my best friends number about three: Randy, Angi, and Katherine.

I may have overstepped...I feel like I have found my sister. I don't know exactly how she feels about it. All I know is when she emails me and she is freaking out, I want to find some way to bring back the calm. When her boyfriend is an ass, I want to beat him. She says I am a mother hen, but I think I'm just a big sister.

I love you, my Katherine, my sister.
